What is the best way to learn to fly fish?

The best way to start out is to get a guide to take you out for a half day trip on the water. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to figure out how to fly fish on your own. There’s a lot of aspects to fly fishing that aren’t intuitive. Trying to do it on your own can lead to bad habbits that can be hard to break down the road. I know this from experience! My casting still suffers from years of self taught bad habits. When you go out with a guide you can start correctly and without the frustration and discouragement. 100% WORTH IT!! Tell your guide you’re there to learn and to show and talk you through all the details. A lot of people just want to go out and fish without any plans to pick it up as a sport. Be specific with your guide! Tell him you want to learn all the knots, the leader construction, fly selection and the thought process behind it all. The guide can also help you with choosing the right gear for learning.
